What is Foot Reflexology?

Foot reflexology involves the application of pressure to specific areas on the feet. It is based on the premise that the feet have a system of zones which correspond to particular organs or areas of the body. By applying pressure to specific points on the foot, it is believed that ailments and diseases can be prevented and existing conditions that are painful or unpleasant can be treated.

The possible benefits of a foot reflexology session can include calmness and serenity, improved circulation, balanced emotions, and overall sense of well being, among many other benefits. Foot reflexology can invigorate tired, aching, and sore feet, leaving your them fresh, attractive and renewed.

Foot reflexology is for anyone who is interested in his or her general well-being. Please note that while reflexology may help with many ailments, it is not a cure for them. Anyone with medical issues should always consult their doctor or physician.

History of Foot Reflexology

Reflexology started almost 4,000 years ago and was practiced exclusively by ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Indian civilizations. It is believed that this technique spread to other parts of the world from Egypt during the reign of the Roman Empire.

Although the history of foot reflexology dates back to the reign of the Chinese Emperor Wendi, it did not flourish until during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). While there were some specialists in China who did not pass their knowledge to others and did not keep any written records, foot reflexology was renewed when Westerners started to contact the Chinese during the late Manchu Dynasty (1643-1912 AD).

Today, foot reflexology is particularly popular among South East Asian cultures that have long accepted the traditions of natural healing and alternative medicine.
